Matthew was temporarily employed with the Canada Revenue Agency from February to April 2010 at which time he left to pursue other opportunities. He returned as a temporary employee in February 2011 and has been employed continuously since then. He currently works in collections and was previously working in the call centre. Matthew’s temporary employment ended in June of 2017 when he was administratively converted to a permanent position in collections.
Matthew became a union steward in early 2015 and in this role has a specific interest in fighting to change the employer’s current term conversion policy to 3 years from 5 years. He feels that temporarily employed members of our local are sometimes afraid to speak up for their rights and he wants to change that. Matthew is one of the founding members of the PSAC Hamilton Niagara Young Workers Committee and currently sits as secretary on the executive. He also acts as the secretary on the executive of the PSAC Hamilton Area Council and is the alternate for Region 6 (Hamilton-Niagara) on PSAC Ontario Council.
