2025 Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) Local 00014 Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Call for Resolutions
The deadline for the submission of resolutions is 11:59pm ET, Friday, January 31, 2025.
The 2025 AGM for UTE Local 00014 will be held at 6:30pm ET on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Members in good standing are welcome to submit resolutions for consideration at this meeting.
Resolutions must be in the correct format, in traditional or simplified wording (see the examples linked below), and cannot exceed 150 words. Resolutions can be submitted by email to majorec@ute-sei.org or by using this form.
Resolution Writing
Resolutions presented at the AGM must be limited to issues on which the Local has jurisdiction, and cannot conflict with the By-Laws, Regulations, or Constitutions of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) or Union of Taxation Employees (UTE). Links to these documents are included below.
Resolutions at the local level are largely administrative, but do not have to be exclusively so. Some examples of things that could be proposed in a resolution are:
- Changes to the wording of an existing By-Law or Regulation (anything from fixing a typo to adding or removing specific clauses)
- Dues that are set locally (local strike fund or other expenses that apply only at the local level)
- Defining an ongoing priority for the local
A resolution can be used to modify a By-Law or a Regulation, or to propose a brand new one. In general, By-Laws tell us what the local is required to do, and regulations explain how we will do it.
Some things that are not within the Local’s jurisdiction are:
- Bargaining demands
- Modification of articles of the collective agreement
- Changes to working arrangements/conditions set by the Employer
The PSAC Prairie Region and National Capital Region have created some helpful guidelines for writing resolutions in both the “traditional” wording and using a “plain language” wording. Links to both are included below. Some of the instructions are specific to resolutions to be debated at national conventions, and do not apply here, but the basic process of writing a resolution applies.
